I do see where Peter Brooks is coming from, but I think he overstates the dangers of narrative and downplays its power for good. Even verifiable facts and reasoned arguments are inevitably coloured by the speaker or writer's CHOICE of facts (and neglect of others) and the specific words used to express them - as anyone who's ever been on a debating team will tell you. And anyone who tells or writes stories, or who listens to or reads them, will tell you that truths and good arguments can often be better conveyed and less censored when presented as literature.
