dewline: "Truth is still real" (anti-fascism)
[personal profile] solarbird has some thoughts about one of the Vulgarian's latest eruptions on "Pravda Sotsialnaya" yesterday, in which he demanded the US federal government get on with the ethnic cleansing on what I suspect to be Stephen Miller's continuing "advice". She's on point here.

This is one of the major reasons why I still think Canada should get out of the so-called "Safe Third-Country Agreement" with the US government right bloody now. Yesterday would have been better, and today would still be good. We need more people up here in Canada anyway to do all manner of work. Whether it's through regular immigration channels, regular refugee channels, or emergency "save the people about to be put through refoulement ASAP, dammit" measures.

Yes, there's a specific word for what Trump and Miller are trying to do to millions of people across the USA right now.

Refoulement.

That's what "remigration" is code for. Sending them back to the undeserved hells they've escaped from.

I intend to have a word about this with my MP and/or her staff. Today.

The Bay was a retail fixture of my life. I didn't expect to outlive the company.

I filed my application for coverage under the federal dental insurance plan yesterday.

Finally.
dewline: Virus Don't Care (COVID-19)
You may have heard in recent months of the Canadian COVID Society. They're looking out for the rights of people living with, or trying to avoid having to live with, COVID infections across Confederation.

They just announced a new resource for such people:

We held our noses, gritted our teeth and made a choice we're not comfortable with. And yeah, we still need a minority government. If we can't have that, then we need to make our place in this clear. Not have it retroactively defined for us.

So...I signed up for another service today.

Hey.Cafe is Canadian-owned and operated, and if I lose access to US-based services because of national/international security, there'll still be this, right?

Referring to this commentary, perfectly timed for this Orange Monday in particular:

Charlie, I fully expect to remain unsafe from US law - despite living on Canadian soil as a Canadian citizen by birth and by choice and despite having no plans to visit the States - for the foreseeable future. You know about the annexation threats the Vulgarian's made in recent months. This is another of the reasons why (a) Hegseth was hired as US SecDef and (b) why Hegseth in turn fired those senior JAG officers.

If Carney remains PMoCanada after April 28th, we might stand a better chance of riding at least some of this bad craziness out. Ditto if either Singh or May gets the job. If Poilievre and his Conservatives win, we all get handed over without a fight from "Ottawa" AKA the federal government. I do not expect a lot of fellow Canadians to permit themselves to be handed over quietly in any case.

Just saying this much will draw unwanted attention to me, I'm sure.

So.

The writ's been dropped.

Let's go.

I'm gonna vote because my life depends on it.

And because your lives do too.

As for Mr. Dickson's warning:

“Trouble rather the tiger in his lair than the sage among his books. For to you kingdoms and their armies are things mighty and enduring, but to him they are but toys of the moment, to be overturned with the flick of a finger.”

I watched Justin Trudeau's speech via YouTube and skipped the Vulgarian's speech. Seems to have been wise regarding my mental health.

And there's concerns about the Rich, Sociopathic and Militant...

And this was the front page of the Globe and Mail today:

He said today that the tariffs would start on the 1st of February.

The day after the foreign election interference report is released by the federal government here in Canada, right?

I am not happy. He was pressured, cornered, whatever verb that invokes the concept of coercion.

No, he has not been perfect. There are choices he made that I am unhappy with to this day.

There's still good and kind works in need of doing, though, and now those works are going to be more difficult to get done. The good works already done over these past five years, of course, are now at greater risk of being undone.

The current leadership of my own party helped make this mess inescapable. I'm not happy with that either...

The dispute between employer and workers isn't over. The workers did get ordered back to work, though, and if memory serves...the dispute has been sent to arbitration.

Subject to correction.
