I voted yesterday at Place d'Orléans Mall. The Elections Ontario riding field office is on the second floor until it's all over.

NDP, of course, in my case. I couldn't let myself vote under the influence of the idea that the outcome's predestined at either the riding level or across the province. I had to vote with hope in place.

I'm happy to note that there was a steady stream of traffic. Lots of people showing up early, and at a steady pace, too.

The logic of Stephen Harper and Donald Trump is at work here. If you make sure that you can't look for it, you won't find it. If you don't find it, it doesn't exist as a problem. If it doesn't exist as a problem, it doesn't have to be solved.

I can't remember when Ontario Lotteries and Gaming ever allowed the Lotto Max jackpot to get *past* C$70 million.

As of this morning, they did that.

And switching from listening to The Current on CBC Radio One to watching Ottawa City Hall's Environment and Climate Change Committee meeting scheduled for this morning!

Yes, my job search continues as I watch this. I consider watching city council meetings part of my job search intel-gathering process.

About the provincial "Blue Box" programme in Ontario?

[personal profile] sabotabby and [personal profile] james_davis_nicoll - among others - have already noticed this on their own accounts.

https://www.ola.org/en/legislative-business/bills/parliament-43/session-1/bill-28

Noting this in the opening text of the legislation:

"The Act provides for new collective agreements. The central terms for those collective agreements are set out in the Schedule. The Act requires the termination of any strike or lock-out and prohibits strikes or lock-outs during the term of the collective agreement.

The Act is declared to operate notwithstanding sections 2, 7 and 15 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Act will apply despite the Human Rights Code.

The Act limits the jurisdiction of the Ontario Labour Relations Board, arbitrators and other tribunals to make certain inquiries or decisions. It also provides for there to be no causes of action or proceedings against the Crown for certain acts. Certain proceedings are deemed to have been dismissed.

The Act provides for regulations, which may be retroactive. Regulations providing for transitional matters will prevail over the Act in the event of a conflict."

There's a thing that bugs me about Randstad: when I look for jobs they're trying to get people matched to and type in "Ottawa" in the location box, I keep getting entries for Hamilton, North York, Concord and so on.

Most people living in Ontario will, I expect, understand why this is an issue for me.

By way of explanation, with the note that North York is part of metropolitan Toronto. Source of map is Wikimedia Commons...

To those of you observing those occasions, I hope today is kind to you!

If you've been living in any Ontario municipality long enough, you probably already know that today is the final day of voting for your local mayor/reeve, your local councillor and school board representative. I hope that if you haven't already done so, you'll take what time you can to go vote for your preference for those positions. The next four years' municipal decision-making rides at least in part on the choices we've been making on those matters.

This I believe: Doug Ford's crew are actively working to make people die and become disabled. Hence this:

I voted today in the municipal elections now being run across Ontario. I would characterize my vote preference as "progressive/small-l liberal" and anti-fascist where the school board is concerned. I wanted to avert the consequences of being in self-isolation on the day the elections conclude.
