I watched Justin Trudeau's speech via YouTube and skipped the Vulgarian's speech. Seems to have been wise regarding my mental health.

And there's concerns about the Rich, Sociopathic and Militant...

And this was the front page of the Globe and Mail today:

Simple, right?

Listening to The House on CBC Radio One at the moment. There is a class-action lawsuit intended to bring those who donated to the organizers of the Convoy Siege of Ottawa last winter to account financially for their role in keeping that siege going, and the consequences of it to the people living and working in downtown Ottawa. Listening to James Manson argue against that lawsuit is quietly infuriating me further.

And they move on to the medical consequences of "misinformation"...which certainly motivated some of the Convoy participants. Others were there to promote and enforce disinformation re: masking and vaccines. And we do not forget that "memorandum of understanding" calling for the removal of the Trudeau government, either. Timed to coincide with Putin's invasion of Ukraine, said invasion still underway. (Speaking of which: after the Convoy lawsuit, the show moves on to "how do we properly solve the Wagner group?", referring to the mercenary organization "working" alongside the Russian military against the Ukrainians.)

Good evening, everyone.

A Putinist missile gone awry from Ukraine struck Poland, killing two people.

DT-45 has declared his 2024 presidential candidacy.

I'm not happy.

(While I worked on posting these links, I'm listening to Cross-Country Checkup, today focusing on the Papal Apology for the crimes of the Residential Schools in Canada this past week. There will be consequences to that Apology in the times to come - if the fascist movements of the modern world be successfully stopped from preventing them - and I hope they will be all to the good.)

Watching Star Trek: Picard now. What a sick joke of timing.

"Time is On My Side" was playing as a nuclear plant in Ukraine is being shelled in the real worlds.

Thus are those two closing questions from last night are answered.

Ukrainians and Russians alike - some of whom are still going to be able to read this, depending on when and where they access the Internet from - have no such guarantees right now.

I'll probably try to discuss other stuff that also still matters to me later tonight. But I'm not going to be very enthusiastic about it.

Word from multiple news services is that Putin announced "denazification" operations.

As if he wasn't probably backing the Azov Battalion all along to muddy the waters.

NBC News is reporting bombing of Kyiv and we have Twitter accounts of explosions over Kharkiv.

Dammit.

So this is how I get to go to bed tonight. Do I get to wake up tomorrow?

Or will Putin have an answer for Justin Trudeau's refusal to be overthrown this past week overnight?

Carole Cadwalladr's latest on some of the investigations in the wake of Brexit Vote I:

Quoth the article:

Facebook said: “The materials obtained by the DCMS committee are subject to a protective order of the San Mateo Superior Court restricting their disclosure. We have asked the DCMS committee to refrain from reviewing them and to return them to counsel or to Facebook. We have no further comment.”

It is unclear what, if any, legal moves Facebook can make to prevent publication. UK, Canada, Ireland, Argentina, Brazil, Singapore and Latvia will all have representatives joining what looks set to be a high-stakes encounter between Facebook and politicians.

Brasil, huh? Do they suspect similar tampering being part of how Balsonaro got elected there?

Also, I think Ukraine has a life-and-death need to be represented at this particular multinational gathering, for reasons similar to those of Latvia and the UK (and maybe the States as well)...

Looking at this on the one hand:

[FORUM] Do you think Kazakhstan will be next after Ukraine?

And on the other, the first two tweets in this posting:

Mulling it all over...and thinking that - as I replied to the latter - Russia Today, Fox News, and Quebecor/Sun Media are all doing similar things right now for similar reasons. RT is the only one explicitly backed by a national government, but there is a similarilty to all three.

An accurate distance to the Pleiades star cluster, at long last? Maybe? I can think of at least one role-playing game supplement in need of the info.

Some commentary on possible consequences of the Tim Horton's/Burger King deal being allowed to process unopposed. David Olive might be worth heeding on this point in particular.

On TVO's The Agenda: Ray Jayawardhana interviewed by Piya Chattopadhyay - known to CBC listeners from her work on The Current and Q - on the subject of the great neutrino hunt. Open this one only if you plan to spend a half-hour with it.

From Reuters: Putin's making "stay out of my way, I got nukes" noises. Insert any sarcastic remark you can imagine me making in reply to this. Also, Gwynne Dyer's noticing the changes in the situation.

Speaking of Prof. Dyer, and getting back to interstellar matters, he's holding forth on the subject of humans naming planets outside of Sol system as well. I think he's right about being outnumbered by Star Wars fandom on this one, and also not sanguine about "Tatooine" being the best choice for us to bestow upon an extrasolar planet...despite being a fan of Star Wars to some degree myself.

More anon...
