[personal profile] ysabetwordsmith pointed out this item on one method being used to make affordable housing doable.

Looking at my personal library...well, I can be branded a hoarder. Or militantly well-read. I wouldn't want much for kitchen space, but I'd want accessibility in anticipation of days to come when I need a walker, wheelchair or some other appliance for moving around. And I would absolutely demand space for my library. Affordable housing and I are going to have an antagonistic relationship, I think, for a very long time. Even if I manage to cull a large portion of my reading collections without sending it into landfill, which I still hope to do.

*sigh*

I'm going to have to find new homes for a lot of comic books, aren't I? I haven't even been able to catalogue them all properly yet.

Well, this was a quiet day too. The House reruns keep playing on CTV Drama upstairs, and for all the trouble I went to over the years to accumulate the DVD collection I currently have, I can't be bothered to watch a one of them yet.

No, for me it's Randy Bachman's Vinyl Tap on Radio One right now.

I may be about to sell another book from my personal library. More on that tomorrow, maybe.

Rereading [personal profile] dduane's Star Trek: TNG novel "Intellivore" and geeking out a bit - again - over the star name-dropping. Looking up "B Hydri" via SIMBAD is bringing up nothing. Should I go to AAVSO?

New printer is up and running.

New eyeglasses are on order. I should be seeing them - and seeing with them - in about a month.

Made more progress with cataloguing my personal library today.

Is anyone interested in the first fifteen books of the Wild Cards series of novels?

Edited by George RR Martin with Melinda Snodgrass and co-written by a few dozen other people as well, it's meant to be a harder-SF, grittier take on the superhuman concept, diverging from real-world history starting in the late 1940's.

Condition ranges from dog-eared to excellent, depending on the age of the paperback in question. If anyone would like to make an offer, contact me by DM or e-mail me at ad696-at-ncf-dot-ca, please?

(Also, please keep in mind that Canada Post charges an arm and a leg because they're irrationally expected through their enabling legislation to turn a profit despite being a Crown corporation, and I need to at least recover my postage and handling!)

Okay, I just set up my Small Business account with Canada Post. We'll see how much usage I can make of it, I guess.

Also, three jobs applied to yesterday. One, I made a mistake with because they need people who drive. Which does not include me.

Sorry for the lack of new entries here. Been busy with a lot of stuff here.

Okay, I think I mentioned feeling the need to start culling my book collection, preferably avoiding the landfill. Whether this is too ambitious...?

The Science of Battlestar Galactica, yes. I had fun with it. Now I need to find a new home for it. There's a bunch of other stuff on offer on Facebook Marketplace if you're interested and have more room in your budgets than I do in mine right now, or you know people who are and do.

More on other stuff to come...

Three jobs applied for today. Tried for a fourth, but couldn't log into the website properly for that company. Still waiting for the password reset e-mail half an hour later.

Oh, I might be looking for a new place for me and my personal library to live starting next January.

"Might?" Probably will be. Long story, not all of it mine to share. Not right now, anyway. Not going to count on lottery money showing up to save anyone's day, let alone mine. But, yeah, this adds a little urgency for unloading some of my collections.

With the help of Delicious Library v. 2.8.5, I've been slowly cataloguing my personal library's contents. Very slowly.

Reached a minor milestone this morning: book # 500 was catalogued: The Microphone Wars - A History of Triumph and Betrayal at the CBC by Knowlton Nash.

The collection doesn't and won't stop at that point, of course. But it seemed worth some small attention.

It's an ambitious project.

[livejournal.com profile] comicsworthread alerted me to something that [livejournal.com profile] raferroberts has announced over at Tumblr that he's getting ready to start in the new year: re-reading every comic he owns.

It's ambitious of him. I'm pretty sure that I won't be able to match him, even should he fail. My collection, irrationally gathered as it's been over the decades, is far more than I can hope to handle. I should really consider a culling for any number of reasons, but it's going to be a while before I can begin to figure out how to manage it. And because I bought it all in order to read it, and some of it well before I even considered the issues of re-saleability...well, I'm not likely to get a lot for most of it should I ever sell it off.

At any rate, it's a reminder to get my other library sectors properly catalogued as best I can.

One more thing to work on in 2013.

As finalized by Eliot R. Brown. Now available via eBay auction for sale by the original artist.

Who knows what it'll finally go for?

Hoping he gets at least what he's asking for, as it may well be worth that price...at minimum.

Depending on your home country, you may want to consider adapting the concept to the local most-popular sport the next time you have a sizable chunk of elected-official turnover in your legislature.
